The Great Songkran Day this year falls on Monday 14 April 2009, corresponding with the Year of the Ox.

This year, 14 April is the Maha Songkran Day and falls on Monday, the fourth waning day of the fifth lunar month at 01.13.14 hours (per the international calendar in which 14 April is Tuesday, but according to the Thai traditional calendar a new day (in this case Tuesday) starts after 06.00 hours.

The “Year of the Ox”, a male human of the earth element, the Chulasakarat era 1371, as per the lunar calendar is a leap year, but per the solar calendar February has 28 days.

Lady Songkran is named Korakatevee who has an Indian cork flower decorating her hair, wears crystal, has oil as food, her right hand holds a weapon called a Khan that is similar to a kris, and her left hand holds a walking cane. She is mounted in a reclining posture on the back of a tiger.

On 16 April at 05.06 hours will be the moment of change into the new era of 1371 (this year). Saturday is the day of victory, Wednesday is an auspicious day, and Friday is the day of the devil and the day of the world’s destruction.

This year Monday is a day of plentiful rain. There will be 500 torrents of rain: 50 from the human world, 100 in the ocean, 150 in the Himapan forest, and 200 in the mountains of the universe. There are two nagas providing the rain.

For food, this falls on Lapa. Planting would be fruitful in 9 parts whereas another 1 part would perish. Food is very nourishing and plentiful.

Water falls in the Apo Zodiac, Zodiac of Water, and will be plentiful in this year.

1. In case of Songkran day is falling on Sunday, plants shall give inappropriate productivity. In case the first day of Aries falls on Sunday, the rice shall die, lots of foreigners will enter the country, the elders shall worry about something affecting them. Should the New Year Celebration fall on Sunday, the King shall have great power to eliminate all enemies from all directions.
   
   
2. In case of Sonkran day is falling on Monday, tsenior government officers and their ladies shall have great power. Should the first day of Aries fall on Thursday, all fruits shall be expensive, the Royal Family shall be worried about the country. 7. In case of Songkran day is falling on Saturday,there shall be lot of crime and serious sickness. Should the first day of Aries fall on Saturday, food shall be expensive, less rice products, expensive fruit, less water and fire in the center of the city, and noblemen shall be punished. Should the New Year Celebration Day fall on Saturday, all soldiers shall beat their enemies.

On Friday, the Songkran Queen is Rintho. In such year, there shall be good rain in the beginning of the year and less in the middle of the year, the plants and rice are destroyed, danger to monks, and the holy rice will remain at Mai Phuttha.

On Saturday, the Songkran Queen is Sama Thevi. In such year, there is a lack of rain, the plants are destroyed by insects, great fire and expensive goods.
